Where the heart is

Home and Away

Ross has been living with Ruby and Charlie for all of five minutes, and already Leah’s house has undergone something of a makeover as the controlling cop drives everyone to distraction with her frantic reordering and obsessive labelling. One thing she’s in no rush to change, however, is her frosty behaviour towards her not-so-wicked stepmother. Unwilling to create room in Ross’s carefully organised schedule for visits from his dearly beloved, it’s to Charlie’s horror that Morag later sees through her acts of sabotage and, ridding herself of any interruption, settles herself down for a one-to-one with the object of her affections. Despite her husband’s assurances that his break from home is only temporary, for Morag one night alone has been more than enough time to relax and unwind; unaware that Charlie has already noted down on her shopping list the need for a new family home, it’s with renewed hope that the happy couple look ahead to their future together.

Home and Away

After her less-than-successful declaration of undying love, Belle hasn’t been able to stop thinking about old flame Aden, and as she battles her way through another shift at the diner it’s clear from his string of unanswered phone calls that new man Angelo is far from her mind. Despite her attempts to keep a low profile as she decides whether or not she’s really happy with Mr Nice Guy, a chance encounter with a former council employee leaves her no choice but to put her soul searching on hold and instead take advantage of another of the perks of being linked to an eager-to-please copper. Dragged to the hospital bedside of Arthur Clay by his wife Enid, Belle learns that she’s on the right track with her theory about the development site: some years ago, the council accepted a generous payment from a company looking to dump toxic material on their land. And so it is that, with Arthur fearing the repercussions of his big revelation, Belle once again finds herself sidling up to Angelo and convincing him to take a statement – only to find her plans rocked by a devastating turn of events.

Home and Away

With Charlie blind to everything else around her as she steps into the role of homemaker, a heartbroken Ruby is struggling alone with her concerns over her dad’s decline. Realising that life is never going to be the same again, she decides to remedy her woes the only way she knows how: by sweet talking a nervous-looking Annie and Jai into joining in her plans to gatecrash the Year 11 beach party. Despite initially losing her nerve after finding herself unexpectedly relieved by Ross’s resulting attempts to put his foot down – in his efforts to stop her going she sees a glimmer of his old self – when he later suffers another lapse in memory it all becomes too much. Making no secret of her longing to send her dad back home to Morag, a burdened Ruby resolves to stop playing the parent and hits self-destruct as she heads off for a booze-fuelled night at the beach. But, with Annie and Jai unable to make her see reason, are her plans for a good time about to end in tears?
